When I visited the Maasai Mara for the first time last September I was really hoping to see a Serval. But not even in my wildest dreams did I hope of seeing one literally 5 minutes into the drive from the airstrip to our camp! What a way to start a trip! We followed this particular serval for about half an hour. It was mostly snoozing or panting in the midday heat. But at some point it started moving through the long grass with a purpose – food. This photo captures one of the moments where it was pondering the course of action to take after hearing a noise. Sadly we didn’t see it pounce or catch anything but I guess if that had happened I would have fainted with excitement!
