Scarface

Scarface

This is Scarface, probably the most recognisable lion in the Maasai Mara.  What makes him so distinctive are the scar over one eye and the badass black stripe of fur on his thick mane.  One of the things I try to concentrate on in my wildlife photography is capturing the essence of an animal or moment. It can be a fleeting expression, an action, or how the animals blend in with the environment around them.  In this case I wanted to focus on Scarface’s most distinctive features.  Easier said than done though as he couldn’t care less about giving me his more appealing profile for a photo. Eventually after patiently waiting he obligingly groomed himself, coiffed his luscious mane and walked past presenting me with his best angle.
