Ring-Tailed Lemur Breakfast

Ring-Tailed Lemur Breakfast

It is amazing how animals are so well adapted to their environment. This Ring-Tailed lemur has no problem feeding on the tiny leaves of this plant, even though there are many spines to negotiate with! The plants are also equally amazing in Madagascar, especially in the south where this photo was taken. The succulent plants the lemur is feeding from, Alluaudia procera (please correct me if I am mistaken – I am no botanist!), were at least 6m tall and can live with very little water.  They can grow up to 18m!

To get the deep blue sky seen in the photo I underexposed by using a high shutter speend and used a flash as fill light for the lemur and plants. Had I not used this technique the sky would have looked washed out.
