Hey, wait for me!

Hey, wait for me!

It was a wonderful sunrise on this particular day in the Mara, made even more special as it was the first proper sunrise we had seen in days due to dull overcast weather.  We were supposed to look for some lion cubs but first we got sidetracked by a pride of lions on a kill and then by a breeding herd of elephants crossing the plains in some lovely light.  I just love watching baby elephants, there is never a boring moment with them around.

Sadly sights like this might soon be a thing of the past with the poaching problems escalating all around Africa, even in Kenya.  It’s beyond me why anyone would want to massacre these beautiful creatures, or keep ivory on their person or in their house.  Thankfully there are still good people around, genuinely interested in making a difference – like the David Sheldrick Wildlife trust who take care of the countless orphans left in the destructive wake of the poachers.  If you want to help you can foster a baby elephant just like the ones in the photo for only $50 a year – it will make a real difference, as the orphaned elephants are eventually reintroduced in the wild.  So give their website a visit – fostering an elephant makes a great gift for a loved one!
