Eyes peeled for danger …

Eyes peeled for danger …

Patience is a virtue, especially for wildlife photography. One morning in the Masai Mara we came across 3 cheetahs, a mother and her 2 almost grownup youngsters. It was obvious the mom had food on her mind and was intently following some topi, stalking them from a distance. We waited and waited but nothing happened. It was almost 1pm, and getting hot. I did not want to deny our guides lunch, so we agreed to have a quick lunch in camp and then return to the scene. Well of course the cheetah chose that time to strike! When we returned we found them gorging on a freshly killed young topi. Such is life! I took this photo during the time they were eating – one of the younger cheetahs lifted its slightly bloodied head to scout its surroundings for danger.
