Ambush

Ambush

There is no better time to be out and about in the bush than in the early morning as most animals are in a flurry of activity. One morning in the Naboisho Conservancy in the Masai Mara we came across a pride of lions. The young ones were bursting with energy. This particular lion decided to ambush its sibling – it needed a good hiding place. Despite the many bushes around it decided to lie down as flat as pancake amongst the short grass. It was very intent on its “prey” but for a split second it looked straight at me. I am glad I was quick enough to press the shutter button – it’s not always the case :) Since it was still pretty dark the cat’s pupils were dilated, adding impact to its expression. As you can imagine the planned “attack” didn’t have the surprise factor the little cub was hoping for – the target was not particularly startled! But with a bit more practice I am sure it will become a better stalker.
