Excited Ellie

Excited Ellie

Ok, my photography is usually always strictly wildlife but I could not help making an exception for this feisty little elephant from the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. I have tremendous respect for this organisation – they do so much good work with animals and have done the seemingly impossible with rehabilitating orphaned baby elephants back into the wild. I have visited their orphanage twice – a place that fills me with positivity and hope. During the evening visit the human adoptive parents can wait for the little ones to come back to their stables after a day foraging in the forest. The ellies know a bottle of delicious milk is waiting for them so they get super excited – as soon as they get close they run as fast as their little legs will carry them! The excitement was a bit too much for this one, as it felt compelled to trumpet and madly wave its trunk around at us. I was pretty surprised as it came way closer than I anticipated – you can notice because I almost cut off the trunk in the photo!

If you would like to adopt cuties such as this one, head off to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust website – it only costs $50 a year!
